While it is not quite Stars Hollow or Bluebell, the mid-size small town we have moved too has some pretty great charm and quirky character traits. Chief among them: their love of Festivals. All kinds, all sizes. All the time.
This weekend was just the first in a string of many coming our way this fall.
Jeanetta and I grabbed some of the kids and headed to the park (which is in walking distance of our rent house – tres convenient,) to celebrate EcoFest and find all sorts of adorableness.
First up were the “street signs” the volunteers had posted at all the little intersections. They denoted the sorts of booths we might find along that section of path.
I think I might need some of these on my farm some day.
Next, we met kindred spirits at the AmericaJaneVintage booth.
Seriously loved these gals and their wares. Great prices, great selection, and super nice.
They even carried some plus size things! Gotta love that. (I also discovered they have a brand new Etsy shop.)
In addition to shopping for me and Netta, there were fun things for the kids as well.
The ultimate “recycling” game – a Box Maze.
I hadn’t seen one of these since Miles got stuck in a huge one at Trunk-or-Treat when he was about 4yrs old. That was traumatic to say the least.
There was also a booth for making Ragdolls out of scrap fabrics – Jeanetta and I had to give that a go.
The lure of fabric scraps was just too much to resist.
Plus this project gave me an idea for an All Saints Day version…
The younger boys got their faces painted.
(I know these two are trying to look fierce but I pretty much just want to gobble them up, they are so cute.)
Question: When did face painting go from little rainbows or fish on the cheek to full-on Braveheart war paint?
My, how things have changed.
This town is also very much into community gardens and urban farming. Be still my heart.
There is also a local online-farmer’s market that delivers out of our church and they were there with all their yummy goodness as well.
Speaking of yummy, after we are walked and shopped and crafted, J and I had worked up an appetite, so we found the food vendor closest to us (which happened to be called Street Fair,) grabbed some lunch, and had a picnic.
I had the “Jeter Dog” and Jeanetta had a Frito Pie.
Perfect for an overcast windy day at the park.
Apparently in another week or so ArtFest begins, and then after that Octoberfest maybe?
Not to mention the antique shows and holiday fairs…
Thankfully I have a great partner in crime for Festival-ing, who knows the ropes and can explain how things work. And who is one of the best parts of living in my new mid-size small town.
