Yesterday was our Open House. Ya know that time when you just about break your back getting your house more perfect and clean than it has ever been so that all your neighbors can come over and peer into your closets while your Realtor shows them around? Luckily for us we have a great agent who had publicized the Open House, so in addition to all the neighbors there were also some real house shoppers. Fingers crossed that some of them come back for a second look.
To get ready for the Open House I took apart and cleaned every room of this house including the boys room. The past year has been so crazy that I can’t remember the last time I changed something or redecorated something besides Christmas. I feel like I have been in a sort of survival mode and extra things like decorating have taken a back burner to basic needs like feeding the boys and lots of hot baths. I wasn’t even sure if I still had any of my decorating mojo left in me.
(Side Note: I am tired of cleaning. Seriously. So. Very. Tired. I cannot tell you how many times yesterday I almost burst into tears because I just kept finding things to clean when I thought I was getting near the end. Eventually I ran out of time and had to declare it all done. But it did look good if I do say so myself.
One of the tips that our agent gave us to prepare for the Open House was to keep things light and airy. Turn on all the lights, open all the curtains, let the sunshine in. The curtains in the boys room were pretty heavy and dark, so I traded them out for some retro sheets I found at Savers. Don’t you love this wavy chevron stripe? So happy and cheerful and modern. I had originally planned to put up something in the room that I could leave but I don’t think I can leave these either. Looks like I will have to come up with a third option. The curtains were originally two fitted sheets that I cut into four panels. You can’t tell from these pics but they really did lighten up the room significantly and the boys loved them too. And all for a grand total of $8 and some change. Hows that for a Make-Do and Make-Lovely Monday? Looks like maybe I haven’t lost my touch after all.
