is listening to a book
I have discovered downloadable books and I think I am in heaven!
First it started with me checking out a Playaway Book called Blessed are the Cheesemakers
which I listen to while I cleaned the house the past week getting ready for the birthday party and put some of the things back right that had gotten moved around while we work on our bedroom…
Having a good story to listen too made the work so much more enjoyable and I felt like I was finally catching up on my fiction “reading” (my “want to read” list is always so much longer than my actual “get to read” list you see…)
Well once I finished Blessed are the Cheesemakers (which I would absolutely recommend – very cute book and not too fluffy, but not super serious and heavy either. I think it’s title fits it perfectly in tone!) I found that I needed something else to listen to quickly (still more cleaning to be done) and I found that I liked listening while I walked the dog and glittered banners as well.
Distressed that I wasn’t going to have time to get to the library soon enough, I remembered that our library can come to us – by way of the internet and that there were tons of books available for download (free!) on the library’s website, which is where I found my next book
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which was an wonderful, delightful and engaging book. Highly recommend this one for sure!!
My sweet man rustled up an old MP3 player of his for me to download the book too and now I can take with me anywhere I need to go, instead of only being able to listen in my studio.
Now that I have finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (wow that is a long title!) I am on to Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, and more cleaning and glittering. I will let you know what I think of this one when it is finished – unless you have read and can tell me what you thought of it…
Also, when I get done with this book, what should I read (listen to) next?? What has been your favorite read this summer?
Seems like we might have the same taste! I enjoyed the Master Butcher's Singing Club. Have you done The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time?
What a great idea Jerusalem!
When I work at my art table during the day I don't want the tv on and sometimes I want something more entertaining then music so this would be perfect.
My fav book that I read this summer was “Three cups of Tea” it's about a man who started building schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan. So touching and amazing on what one person can do to change the world!!!

(they have a kids version too!)
I wish our library system had free downloads that's great.
What a great idea! You pick books with super cute titles! I'm not much of a reader of fiction so I have nothing to recommend. BUT, I may just pick up one of your recommendations and give it a try! Happy cleaning!!
What a delightful idea!!! we have always listened to books on tape when we travel…never dawned on me to enjoy one while cleaning!!
Thanks for the idea!
Blessings!

I just finished “read-listening” to The Shack. Very good book- isn't the library a wonderful resource! I'll have to check out the books you listed too!
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. I just finished it. Very different from the movie, but both are light and funny and make you feel good.
I really, really, really love books on tape. I always listen to them when I work on a project. My favorite audiobook of all time is Hattie Big Sky. Oh, please do give that one a listen. I just know you'll love it.
What perfect MiX! I love your suggestions ~ Relyn has recommended the 2nd one to me too. I must go check that one out!
Summer Blessings Friend!

Oh… almost forgot my recommendation ~ I truely enjoyed Firefly Summer by Kristen Hannah and The Year of Simple Pleasures by Eliz. Berg. 😉
Digital Downloads from the library are absolutely fantastic. I'm currently listening to The Fixer-Upper–Mary Kay Andrews latest book.
Before I had children I would always listen to books on tape on road trips…I can't imagine doing it now with three kids:-) I should try it again while I am crafting.
I'm a cheesemaker! That book has a great title- I'm gonna find it at the library. 🙂
