If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram or have been reading this blog for a while you may have noticed that over the past nine months I have been working on a house other than mine.
The house is called The Nest. It is an emergency refuge home for women and children who find themselves homeless for whatever reason. The Nest has been a labor of love, for me, for my family, and for the countless people and groups who have volunteered and donated. Even Kid President has helped out with this project!
The Nest is the work of The One, Inc. A non-profit organization that is best known for their flagship project – The Van. In addition to the original Van, there are two more satellite programs in other cities, several in the works, and The Field – a large garden and chicken coop that grows food and eggs for the homeless neighbors in Central Arkansas.
As winter approaches we are working to get all of the finishing touches on The Nest so that it can run at full capacity this winter. We have a few more beds being built, plumbing and flooring being finished and we are working hard to get the last of the furniture needed as well as the finishing flourishes that will take this space from shelter to refuge, from house to home, for all who enter, but we still need some funds to make all of this happen.
To help with this cause my friend Dee, who is a brand-new Martha & Mary consultant, and I devised a plan to do a little fundraising through her new venture. You know I love to support women and small businesses, so this was a good fit for me – helping Dee kick off her new career and helping raise funds for The Nest, as well as getting some more lovely accessories with meaning for the home.
Chances are there will be a family or two staying at The Nest over Christmas. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if it was the coziest, warmest, safest, loveliest place in town? Wouldn’t you like to help make that possible AND knock out some of your Christmas shopping all at once??
Well, now you can!
So here is how it will work
You do some holiday shopping from the Mary & Martha Catalog
I will donate all of my hostess points and Dee will donate 1/2 of her profit and $50 for every party booked to The Nest
It’s that simple!
Below are a few of my favorite products from Mary & Martha – which yes, you guessed it, has a spiritual encouragement bent to all their products. Which, as a self-confused Church Nerd, I love.
(Tip: Some of the images in the online catalog are a little small, so if you want to check out their items further, do what I did and follow their Pinterest Boards…)
ABC Magnets (we have these and love them!)
Announcement Sign (this is a favorite of mine and on my wish list)
