(paraphrased from the chapter Home By Another Way, by the book of the same name by Barbara Brown Taylor.)
No they would not be going back through Jerusalem. All three of them had a dream that said steer clear of Jerusalem, as if they needed to be told. Besides, none of their old maps worked anymore. They would find a new way home. So the wise men picked up their packs, wich were lighter than before and they lined up in front of the baby to thank him for the gifts he had given them.
The home and the love felt there.
Beautiful baby flesh, squishy and warm and real.
A really great story.
Another way home.

Last night I read this chapter, and this morning, to my delight and surprise, I heard it again slightly embellished and lengthened, at church. I listened with a huge smile on my face because I had planned on sharing it with my boys over supper, but instead, here we all were, hearing it as a family, soaking it in together.
And here is what I thought.
Thank you Lord for a home full of love.
Thank you for a savior made of squishy warm flesh and those who come in his place to me daily, also in squishy warm flesh.
Thank for a really great story that we can all be a part of.
And thank you most of all for old maps that don’t work anymore.
Thank you that it forces me to go home, by another way.

I love this post. Every year the feast of the Epiphany means more to me and this is perfectly stated here.
