God rest you merry, gentlemen,
- Let nothing you dismay,
- For Jesus Christ our Saviour
- Was born upon this day,
- To save us all from Satan’s power
-
When we were gone astray:
- O tidings of comfort and joy,
- comfort and joy,
- O tidings of comfort and joy.

I have been listening to the version of this song (combined with We Three Kings) by the Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan. It seems to sum up how this Advent feels to me this year. We could all use tidings of comfort and joy.
- Yesterday I went to the doctor. 3 more weeks in the boot and off my feet. I can do a little more sans crutches as long as it doesn’t hurt. And by a little more I mean I can walk from my bed to my dresser. That is about it.
- We have started referring to this season as The Hobbled Christmas. I am pretty sure in everyone’s life a little hobbled holiday must fall. There was one Christmas when I was about five years old that everyone came down with the flu, my dad (who was taking Seminary finals) got a bad case of the hives and our dog had puppies on Christmas Eve. That one was a doozy. My poor mother. In her honor, to all the mother’s out there with small or sick children this season -I wish you
-
- tidings of comfort and joy,
- comfort and joy,
- O tidings of comfort and joy.

This Advent (as most are) has been filled with both the sweet and the salty; both tears and laughter have peppered our days. I cannot help but think of friends who have experienced loss this season. Remembering will now always be a part of their Advent, part of their journey. My boot drama seems small and insignificant in comparison. To anyone who finds themselves in the tender place of loss during the “happiest time of the year,” I wish you
- tidings of comfort and joy,
- comfort and joy,
- O tidings of comfort and joy
-
Today I am thankful for friends who share Advent dinners with us in their home, for sisters who help decorate, for friends who do my laundry because it is the thing that we just can’t seem to manage in my current state. I am thankful for a Sweet Man who brings me peppermint mocha’s and a son who brought me breakfast in bed today because he knew it was St. Lucy Day.
To everyone who has gone out of their way to bring joy to someone else’s Advent, to everyone who finds themselves overwhelmed with blessings this year, I also wish you
tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy,O tidings of comfort and joy
I feel for you J! I really do. I've dealt with so many back problems and have been so physically limited this past year. It really started to wear me down mentally. Chin up sweet girl. This too shall pass.
A lovely post and I wish the same to you this advent!
