I just read this. I am overwhelmed, in love and bowled over.
It has been a really long time since I read a work of fiction this amazing. This kind of book does not happen very often. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to be a better writer, a better artist.

I live in the South, My grandmother had help. Her name was Joetty.
I think there might have been a slight brief family scandel, when my young hippiesque mother asked her to sit at the family table for lunch. I sat in an Asian Nail Salon and got a pedicure and read this while the ladies waiting on me, giggled and chatted in their native tongue about me, laughing at how clueless I was when I kept putting my feet in the wrong place for the toe-nail dryer, and had to call a friend to help me out when I realized I didn’t have my wallet. When I got home I laid in my freshly made bed, in crisply laundered sheets that I did not wash. Because once a week I have help.

This August the movie comes out. Who knows if it will even come close to being as good as the book.
I don’t care, I will watch it anyway. I will probably love it anyway.
But if you can, you MUST read this before you see the movie.
You must decide for yourself what Skeeter and Abileen and Milly look like, sound like and feel like.
Then you can take in Hollywood’s version and do with it what you like.
But first you must decided for yourself.
It is only fitting.
I am reading RIGHT now, on chapter 4 or 5… I am throughly enjoying it as well! Can't wait for the movie…

Love, love, LOVED it! And when I found out who was going to be in the movie, I was happy. I think the choices for Minnie and Abilean were perfect and exactly what I had envisioned when I read it!
PS I'm reading Saving CeeCee Honeycutt right now and it is very reminiscent of The Help.
I know this book is getting a lot of hype right now but it really is a good read. I am looking forward to the movie. The clips look like they nailed the characters!
The Help was my favorite book of 2010. I read it and then bought the cd version for my hospitalized Mom. She never got to finish it but loved with she listened to. Just finished Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt, which was good but not as good as The Help.
Also recently read The Weird Sisters which was fabulous!
I've been wanting to read this book. And think I will have to pick a copy up on my lunch today! I felt the same way after I read The Book Thief. The characters stayed with me long after I finished the last sentence and closed the cover.
Thanks! I will download the audio version as soon as I can!
I loved the book and will see the movie too!
Thank you for this great review. This book has been calling to me for a long time. I seldom buy books new; but I will go to my local Atlantic Superstore this evening and buy this little guy (less 30%)!
This was one of my favorite books that I had read it along time…one that I just could not put down. Am so hoping the movie is as good as the book!
So loved the book…can't wait for the movie!
Saving Cee Cee is not as great as The Help, but a good read!
Ooooh! I loved this book, too. I made my book club read it, and what a great month that was! Luv your blog, too!

Hi Jerusalem!
I just found your blog through suziebeezie and have spent the past half hour looking through your archives!
I enjoyed The Help and am looking forward to seeing the movie.
I wanted to give you kudos for your response to anonymous. I hope to be able to respond to such negativity with the grace you have shown.
I read this book a year and a half ago. I LOVE it!! I am so excited for the movie. While I was reading it, I was casting the movie in my head!
Did you read/see the movie “Water For Elephants”? Another of my favorites 🙂
I love this book. Can't wait for the movie.
Love, love, loved this book!!! The audio version is fantastic. The readers really capture the characters and make them come alive. It is one I will listen to over and over.
