this post is very white in color
please do not be shocked or try to adjust your monitors.
(i know how you have become accustomed to my colorful ways, but I have to find balance somehow!)
this is the couch from Ikea that I thought I always wanted – the Ektorp.
then I met this couch, the Carlisle from Pottery Barn.
Oh, swoon.
But it is tooooo pricey for me. I like a deal.
So then I discovered this little lovely thing:
The Hovas, also from Ikea and much better priced than the Carlisle, but pricier than the Ektorp.
and then there is this option – the Karlstad (again from our pals at Ikea)
which can come with a long skirt
or
none at all.
So who knows what I will end up with. Or if I will end up with any of them at all…
I have only ever sat in the Ektorp sofa, so I am plotting a trip to Ikea in February to test drive the Hovas and Karlstad’s to see what I think…
I wonder if any of you have any of these sofa’s. If so, what do you think about them??
Also when I go to Ikea, I want to check out this great kooky lamp that I am head-over-heals in love with. Isn’t it just the most fun?
Oh, how I love the Pottery Barn sofa. We've had our eye on a few of them, but yes, waaaaay too expensive! We have the Hovas sofa, from Ikea, right now. We've owned it for about 6 years and it's held up pretty well. I guess I should mention we don't have kids. I love having different color slipcovers to put on. I use the white one for Spring & Summer and the brown one for Fall & Winter. I usually wash them once while they're on the sofa and once before I store them. Mine have held up well. Good luck on your search! : )
I am sure you will be able to make one of those work ~ or slipcovers are always an option! The lamp does look like fun! Happy Trails and Blessings my friend!
I want to marry that lamp.
I have the three seater Ektorp a sleeper Ektorp and the arm chair too , they are very comfortable, i have had mine 8 years , if you get the white sofa buy a second slipcover , they are dirt cheap this will be a life saver , you will always have one clean to swap out .
I also like that long skirt Ikea one as well .such bargains
We have the Ektorp…a sofa and two chairs. We are really, really hard on furniture and I think we've finally found furniture that can stand up to the challenge. It's very sturdy and the slipcovers wash easily.

I think I love that last one best! {but by the time I got to it, my pupils were all sortsa confused from being blinded by the white. ;0}
Have a great Ikea trip; Looking forward to seeing what you pick up.
Love, love, love the Carlisle. So gorgeous!

Have always liked the Ektorp, but I am pretty plain jane. Are you coming down here and going to the one in Frisco?
I love the Ektorp – I've always wanted one. It's so classic & you can change the cover to different prints. And I think I just saw on Kasey's blog (Lola B's) that she found the slipcovers on sale at Ikea for $5!
here's the link to Kasey's Ikea post: http://lolabboutique.blogspot.com/2010/01/my-husband-left-me.html
great!!!!!!! i seriously just borrowed a truck to pick up my white ektorp from ikea today….now i might have to search the store and rethink. 🙂
I thought I was going to like the Hovas better than I did. It just wasn't comfy to sit on.
We've only had the ektorp for 2 months, but I love it. It's quite squishy and comfy.
I have the Ektorp in tan-wanted white but got it from a craigslister (it's brand new!) and I love it! Now I will get the white slip and be happier! good lick deciding-it is comfy!

Ok, Get this….we have the ektorp 3 seater sofa, the ektorp sectional, the ektorp chair and the ektorp chaise(which I am sitting in as I write this) I have two sets of covers for all of them, white for summer and darker colors for winter. I love love love that i can take the slips off and wash them. Wash in cold water and never put them in a dryer, they will shrink. I put mine back on wet, they are easier to get on that way. Hands down they are the best pieces of furniture I have ever owned. Slipcovers rock because the furniture always looks new because it's always clean.
Have fun a Ikea, I was just there this week!

That lamp is so great! That would be so cool in a child's room. I love ikea
Ohhhh have fun in Ikea, one of my most fav stores to shop in!

I am a recent owner of the ektorp corner sofa in white and i am VERY happy with it! i can't wait to see what you end up with!
We have two of the ektorp 3 cushion sofas with the slip covers and they are great! They are easy to wash and put back on, and with kids it happens often. They get jumped on, slept on, and spille dona dn we love them.
I'm making the same decision you are! Pottery Barn sofa is too pricey for my budget. I think I'm going to go with the Ektorp, because I think the cushions may hold up better. Currently I have a sofa with two long cushions, just like the Hovas, but they sag in the middle of the sofa because we always sit in the middle. I think the three cushions are best.
Oh ….I am having the same dilemma.
The Hovas vs. the Ektorp. I have been to Ikea twice plopping myself into one and then the other over and over again…(I am sure the people there thought i was a nut case)…I just can't decide between the two. The Hovas seems to LOOK cozier (the curl up with a good book and a cup of tea on a rainy day kind of cozy) while I seem to realy think that the less expensive and smaller Ektorp actually is comfier …anyone else tried them both out and have some insight or opinions?
We have the grey Ektorp 3×3 and haven't been too pleased. In the first few months the slipcover discolored and turned orange in spots. Ikea replaced it with a new one, but when we took the covers off the cushions after 9 months of use we discovered on two cushions that the stitching separating the feather pillow top section had torn and the feathers migrated all over the cushions. We're thinking about trying again with a Hovas.
