This weekend has been a busy one… so much going on with the boys (baseball, baseball, baseball) at church (huge rummage sale & church picnic today) and work (library & rush orders yesterday) but today, the official day of rest, I decided to spend the latter half doing some things that are restful to me. Like crafting for fun.
And here is what I came up with – my version of the American flag, paper style…
It still needs a good coat of Modge Podge to be officially finished, but I couldn’t wait to take a few picture of it, so that step will have to wait till later.
I am always so inspired by all the cool quilting projects that people out in blogland are doing (especially Manda @ Tree Fall,) that I wanted to try something similar, but with paper instead of fabric.
I used leftover paper scraps, an old cabinet door I found on the side of the road, a star punch and a glue stick. My paper strips aren’t all exactly perfect and straight, but I decided that was part of what is fun about crafting for me – I don’t care if they are all straight or not!
And the best part? No seam ripping or needle threading!
Next up: a companion Union Jack in the same colors!

Love it. (Plus, it is sturdier than fabric, and therefore easier to actually use!)

it looks great! I was making my own little version of a union jack flag last weekend all the while wondering how to do an american one….(I used fabric!) Great minds think alike eh? :0)

LOve the flag. I was just thinking how unexcited I was about the 4th of july…red, white, and blue? A little too patriotic for my home decor. But I should have known that the queen of color would have thought of something bright and cheery! thanks for the inspiration! 🙂

I have a question for you about the flag but for some reason your email me link doesn't work for me. Could you email me back and then I'll reply?
