Let me just say that I have been trying to get back to the blog, oh so desperately trying. But each time I have gone to post over the past few days something else has gotten in the way – a kid, a job, a chore, a nap, work again… But hopefully this time I will finish and publish… hopefully. Because I have exciting news. Well, exciting to me and at least 3 other people….
Since September Jeanetta and I have occupied a little space in an old house that has been converted into a store. This store is in a great area and the minute I walked into The Shoppes on Woodlawn I knew I had to be a part of it. Somehow I talked Jeanetta into it too (using my charm I am sure) and over the past 9 months she has mailed me things that she has painted or knitted or created and I have added them to things I have thrifted or made or created, filling up our small nook. Anyone who knows me for more than 5 minutes knows that I have dreamed of having my own store for years. And since moving into Woodlawn, I have loved every minute of the experience; the fluffing, the re-shuffling of product, the planning for seasonal items, the hunt for great vintage items…
During the whole experience there has only been 2 drawbacks… First, that Jeanetta wasn’t here to be more involved, that we haven’t been able to go thrifting together, or to set it all up together, or even just sit around and read ME Home Companion and brainstorm together. The second drawback has been how small our space has been. Too small for any furniture, large paintings, mirrors or anything bigger than a bread box really. But this past week all that changed.
To our delight we were invited – given first dibs in fact – to move our little shoppe from the upstairs attic closet, to the downstairs front parlor. The front parlor, doesn’t that just sound great? And it is! It is the first room in the house, it is a great size, not too big, not too small. It has 2 small windows, a fireplace and a double doorway! I just can hardly believe it. It is such a grown up space… A space big enough to show off a complete look – from windows, to furniture, to accessories, we will be able to put forth our vintage vibe in a complete way! And with Jeanetta moving here later this summer, I just have to keep pinching myself… The timing couldn’t be better, it is just meant to be, a dream come true.
So sometime in July we will move downstairs to our new big room (with our new bigger rent! So please come shop!) and I couldn’t be more excited… So what did I do to celebrate this big decision? I went shopping of course – we’ve got to fill that room with more than banners and dishes and cupcakes! Take a look at what I came home with (and this is just one speck of the luck I had!)
A full set of vintage canisters and cookie press…
A full set of vintage canisters and cookie press…
A vintage sewing box full of vintage thread, buttons, knitting needles…
Vintage glitter in glass containers, vintage sheet music, candle holder, tutu…
And finally, musical chairs anyone???
There is so much more, but I won’t bore you with picture overload…If you live close by you will have to come see for yourself in July. But I will say that Saturday I hit the garage sale jackpot and I felt as if it was a little smile from heaven above, saying “yes dear girl, this is good…”

I’m so happy for you Jerusalem! How exciting! The Front Parlor with a mantle. Wish we were closer so we could visit you on your open house day. Maybe one day I’ll treat Tracy to a visit to your place so we can see you and meet Jeanetta. Anxious to see more great finds! You ARE my personal shopper, you know!
